Abstract: For the first time this article describes the translator Lubov Bolshintsova (maiden name Feinberg, 1903–1983), wife of the famous translator and poetry expert, Stenich Valentine, who was executed in 1938, and then the wife of screenwriter Manuel Bolshintsov. When Charlie Chaplin died, Lubov Davydovna had the right to say of herself: «I was a soldier in the army, of which he was general» (testimony of A. G. Naiman). She has an extraordinary personality with an extraordinary destiny. She translated into Russian the plays of L. Hellman, M. Maeterlinck, J. P. Sartre, J. Anouilh, Brecht, and others. The second half of the article is devoted to the long-term friendship of Bolshintsova and Anna Akhmatova. This text contains some unknown documents from Bolshintsova’s archive and verbal testimonies.
