Abstract: In typological terms, the motipheme (Pike’s term) is the “divergence” between the primary European “invariants” (Perrault, the Brothers Grimm), as well as, their transpositions, “emanations” in Armenian translations and transpositions. The article takes into consideration theoretical preconditions of V. Propp, A. Dandes, Yu. Lotman, etc., as well as, carries out depictions due to semiotic and typological key. The motipheme and typological analysis of the empirical material showed that the version of Little Red Riding Hood of Perrault was addressed to the adult recipient, and the Brothers Grimm’s – to the children. Recipients and cultural context (Enlightenment, Romanticism) played an important role in the processing of folklore material. The motipheme and functions of the fairy tale played a significant role in the construction of the author’s narration. The Armenian-American version of the Little Red Riding Hood by Talene Dadian White (Little Red Hood and the Kesh Kayl: The Armenian Version of Little Red Riding Hood, 2011) is presented as a neutral version in relation to the European primary sources. The main story of the fairy tale is taken from Perrault, but with some editing, that is, without horrific moments, since the addressee of this tale are the children of preschool age of the Armenian diaspora living in extralinguistic space of their ancestors.
