Abstract: The article discusses Vsevolod Ivanov’s story «The Return of Buddha» in motive context of Russian literature of the 1920s. It is shown that the literary workt facing the understanding concrete historical situation of 1920s, today turns the prophecy about «the crash of European civilization».
