Abstract: The story «The Bride» by Chekhov is considered in the aspect of the author’s reexamination of the plot model which is crucial for the Russian literature of the 19th century and known as «a Russian man at rendezvous». The trace of the author’s dialogue with F. M. Dostoyevsky’s novel «The Demons» is reviewed.
