ArticleName: Onomastic Space of A. N. Ostrovsky’s Play «The Storm» as a Simbolic Reflection of the Plot and Its Tragic Denoument Authors: Isakova I. N. (Moscow) Moscow State University, Moscow, Russian Federation In the section The Plot, Motive, Genre
Abstract: Summary. The proper names in «The Storm» by Ostrovsky being regarded within the context of national culture become symbols that determine the plot of the play turning it into a mythologeme. Practically no character whatsoever realizes the intention that his or her name contains, moreover, the behavior of each character is exactly the opposite of what is expected. It may be explained by the influence of a surname, that is a generic principle that no character can or even tries to fight. Katerina had been realizing the intention of her name only before she got married. When she finds herself a member of the Kabanovy family she unwittingly comes under its influence, which leads then to her fall and death. Keywords: name, symbol, plot, national calendar, omens, customs. Bibliography: |
