Abstract: The article puts forward the hypothesis of intertextual connection of the stories «Albert» by L. Tolstoy and «The Adventurer» by G. Gazdanov. It covers the following identical motives and motivating complexes: time, space, failed fun, wanton boredom, number three, strange things, madness, a handsome face of the hero, power, a trip to Russia, night meeting with a woman, visions, a shadow, burying alive, «magnetic» and «street» complexes, complex «a violin and a bell»; the method of repeating the hero’s characteristics is also analyzed.
